Why Brands are still Important

A recent NYTimes story stated that research firm, Yankelovich, estimated that a person living in a city 30 years ago saw up to 2,000 ad messages a day.

That number is up to 5,000 today and climbing.

I don't believe our human capacity to process information has grown much in the past 30 years. It certainly hasn't jumped by a factor of 2.5X (like ad message volume has).

This fact, along with the proliferation of available information and fracturing media landscape means that branding will be even more important tomorrow than it is today...and today it is critical.

The presentation on branding linked above is a bit long, but very well done, hard-hitting and simple to absorb.

Enjoy.
